Welcome to my Blog. I am Manas Mani, and I will walk through some of the important and necessary details before coming to Aalborg.

Starting with the basic questions that I was hardly aware to before coming to Denmark

Banks and Currency: The Danish Currency is called Kroner (DKK). There are many banks such as Nordea, Danske and Spar Nord, where one can easily open an account.

Weather: Many jokes are told about the Danish climate. One of them is about a foreign visitor who writes home that there are two seasons in Denmark, a green one and a grey one. The green one is the worst, he writes, because then the Danes turn off the heat!
The truth is, however, that the Danish weather is neither worse nor better than in any other Northern European country. Spring comes in April, and June, July and August are usually the warmest months with an average temperature of 22 C. There are quite a lot of beautiful sunny days during the summer, and often the temperature is above 22 C. The autumn often also has beautiful sunny and mild days, and the colours of the leaves change into yellow, red and orange. Around October it gets colder, and January is usually the coldest month with an average temperature of 0 C. You are therefore advised to bring warm and waterproof clothes if you are staying during winter.

It can, however, rain in Denmark at all times of the year - therefore rain clothes or an umbrella is always a nice thing to have. As to snow, it is not a sure thing to experience. Some winters, Denmark gets a lot of snow (0,5 m) and other winters nothing or next to nothing.

Medical Facilities: I came to Denmark on 28th Sepptember 2010, and it took me one week to get my CPR card. I was assigned a Doctor to consult for any medication purposes free of charge. Dental treatment has to be taken care personally (Its expensive :P)

Living Expenses: Living expenses in Denmark will, of course, vary according to personal requirements and standards. Renting a room is normally between DKK 1,650 and 2,300 per month and rented 2 - 3 bedroom flats are between DKK 3,000 and 5,000. Basic food expenses are approximately DKK 2,000 per month.
Transportation: The common mode of transportation is Bicycle. People enjoy riding bikes here. But if you are not a biker, no worries Denmark has the best transportation service I ever came across.

Sports: There are range of sports that one can participate in. For e.g. Ice skating, basketball, volleyball, cricket, bowling and whatever you can think of.

Fun Time: Aalborg is Famous for its party street Jomfru AneGade. Aalborg is also famous for it's carnival which takes place every year in May. This is the biggest carnival in Northern Europe, and more than 20,000 people arrive to aalborg to participate in this feast.
